Yesterday's 25th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster was marked by a remembrance ceremony at Anfield and one of the most impressive speeches delivered yesterday was by Everton boss Roberto Martinez. Putting aside any petty squabbles or footballing rivalries, the Spaniard detailed his memories of first hearing of the disaster as a 15-year-old football mad teenager in Spain and the subsequent sadness it brought him.

The reaction from the Liverpool faithful was effusive praise and applause for their rival team's manager, as both sides of the Mersey divide ignored any footballing rivalry and remembered the 96 football fans that didn't come home on an afternoon in the middle of April in 1989 and that it doesn't particularly matter what colour t-shirt that they were wearing.

Well said, Roberto.
