The show that only served to make legions of people question their attractiveness, given the 'ugly' person in question wasn't ugly at all... leaving yet more people to question whether braces and glasses make perfectly decent looking individuals 'ugly'... has been given its marching orders.

Network ABC announced the current, fourth, season of the fashion drama starring America Ferrera will be the last. No reason for the decision was made, but ABC promised fans there will be a suitable ending to the programme.

"We've mutually come to the difficult decision to make this Ugly Betty's final season, and are announcing now as we want to allow the show ample time to write a satisfying conclusion," said executive producer Silvio Horta and ABC president Steve McPherson in a statement. "We are extremely proud of this groundbreaking series (?!), and felt it was important to give the fans a proper farewell."

Mark Indelicato, who plays Betty's teenage nephew Justin Suarez *clicks fingers*, admitted the decision came as a shock. "It's been an amazing four years. I've learned so much from the wonderful actors I have worked with. It’s sad to see this come so unexpectedly but I think that we all recognise the tremendous work that we have done - and am very grateful for that."
