Rory McIlroy had a pretty amazing year this year, but the BBC voters didn't think so as they chose not to award the Sports Personality of the Year award to him.

This year, McIlroy claimed two majors and was pretty important as Europe once again claimed Ryder Cup victory, but Hamilton's win of his second F1 title (just last month) saw him top the polls with almost 14% more votes than Rory.

Suffice to say that people on Twitter, in particular the Irish, were not thrilled that he didn't get the win, but many of his fellow golfers, other sportspeople and even the odd celeb were also dumbfounded that his incredible year on the course wasn't rewarded.

Still there was some good news for the Irish golfers as Paul McGinley won the coach of the year.
