The constant tensions in Ferguson have been all over social media in recent weeks and months, and as often happens, there have been some very unpleasant things said.

Given the nature of the conflict and the racial tensions which are at its core, many of the tweets, Instagram posts and Facebook statuses that have been shared online contain offensive language and are abusive in nature.

As a result, a tumblr page dedicated to outing the people who post racist material on their social media profiles to their employers, called racists getting fired (& getting racists fired), has sprung up, and is attracting a lot of attention. On it, the owner of the Tumblr account finds posts with racist material in them and then digs a little bit in to the person's profile to find information about them, before then passing on those details to the companies they work for.

The results, as you might expect, are not good for those who are tweeting and seem to have forgotten that what they put on social media is public and for all to see. A typical example is that of Twitter user VA Truck Driver (@Redneck45Rem) who made some highly offensive comments, some of which are shown below, and they contain extremely NSFW language.

The Tumblr account contains a few other examples of people who have made similar comments and been summarily dismissed from their jobs as a result, with most companies issuing apologies and saying that those people no longer work for them.
