We all need a holiday and a sun holiday - we think - is the best.

You get to lie by the pool or the sea, sprawl out and relax. But not everybody is so fortunate.

A trio of Grannies from rural Croatia experienced their first sun holiday just this week, thanks to a successful crowdfunding campaign organised by friends and families.

Iolanda Pellizzari, Armida Brisaghella and Erminia Losa set off on a twelve-hour coach trip from their rural village in the Italian Alps to the sunny island of Ugljan in Croatia and experienced swimming in the sea for the first time in their lives.

The youngest of three, Iolanda - who's 73 - said that when she saw the sea for the first time, the first thing she "wanted to do was to put (her) foot in the water."

After the experience, Iolanda said "I'm not able to swim, but I felt a great sense of liberation."

The trio ad dreamed about a trip to the sea for years, but had never been able to afford the expense and with their advancing ages, it seemed increasingly unlikely.

However, a successful crowdfunding campaign saw their dreams realised - with the women sending personal postcards to over 200 people who funded them.

The ladies' trip is being documented and will be the subject of an upcoming documentary, entitled Funne - which is the local dialect for women.
