Man of the moment (well, he stole our hearts last week in Dublin anyway) Tom Cruise has opened up to a German outlet about his marriage break up with Katie Holmes last year. For someone to be 50 years of age, have experienced unparalelled success and appear to have it all figured out, it came as a complete shock even to him. Is that possible? Can you really not expect something like that to happen? Either way, it's nice to see Tom be open about the very high profile split, having every minor detail splashed across the world's collective red tops can't have been easy.
Cruise made the following, heartfelt comments to TV network ProSieben about the shock of ending his 6 year marriage with Katie Holmes, with whom he shares daughter Suri Cruise.
"I didn't expect it... Life is a tragicomedy. You need to have a sense of humour... I had an unbelievable amount of time to think about it. Life is a challenge."
The three-times divorced actor added that he didn't expect to be single at his age but said that it has helped him to put his life in perspective.
"To be 50 and to have experiences and to think, you have a grip on everything, and then it hits you: This is it, what life can do to you."
Y'see, you could be the biggest movie star on the planet and still go through some less than favourable times.
