If there's one thing the Internet is good for, it's coming up with theories about various pop culture events and milestones. They're often outlandish and wacky and sometimes even entertainingly so.
In this case, however, this one actually makes complete sense.
Twitter user and comedian Emily Heller speculated that the reason that Ross and Monica were written as brother and sister in Friends was because all of the other friends would have sided with Carol after they got divorced, because let's face it, nobody's favourite character was Ross. (Sorry, Ross).
Not everyone agreed with her, though, and it turned out that a can of worms had been opened...
Just realized they HAD to make Monica & Ross brother and sister otherwise all the F•R•I•E•N•D•S would have stuck with Carol in the divorce

Truly meant this not as a Ross burn but a Carol compliment

Exactly! nobody wants to hang out with the sad guy who owns a monkey. Ross sucks.

there's a bunch of deleted scenes where they all keep in touch with carol and love and support her behind ross's back

Carol was great, but I believe I’m in the minority here in saying that I found Susan a bit annoying. 🤷ðŸ?»â™€ï¸?

I've always felt like Ross wasn't a 'real' friend. Not sure any of them would have hung out with him if he wasn't Monica's brother.

Am i the only one that thinks that's unfair?

I used to find Ross annoying but he really grew on me through the constant rewatching of the show. He is thoughtful (Phoebe's bike!) And his plotlines are often the funniest! See:
- His leather pants
- The "I hate Rachel club"
- The holiday armadillo
- His maple candy

Exactly! To the OP and everyone else who thinks that Ross didn’t really belong, I’ll leave you with this thought: pic.twitter.com/s1X4h8K6lr
