Books get turned into movies all the time, with varying degrees of success, but there are plenty of authors that seem to be favourites among the Hollywood elite, so who are the best of the best?

The Hollywood Reporter have come up with a list of 25 authors that they consider to be the real "superhroes" of the movie industry at the moment, and it's hard to argue when you consider that between them, they've got more than 300 movie and TV projects under their collective belts, and have been raking in cash for TV and movie studios non-stop. To make the list, THR looked at book sales, number of adaptations, other screenwriting and also assessed the cultural impact of their works.

Sitting atop the list on piles and piles of cash is, of course, J.K. Rowling, whose Harry Potter franchise made more money than you could shake a wand at. Sorry, that was terrible but either way, it's made a lot of cash, alright?

The rest of the top five is (in descending order) Stephen King, George R.R. Martin, E.L. James and John Green of The Fault in Our Stars fame. Other recognisable names in the list include Gillian Flynn (Gone Girl) at number 7, Suzanne Collins at number 12 (The Hunger Games) and Nick Hornby at number 19.

Cormac McCarthy sits at number 22, which is a surprise considering the success of movies like No Country for Old Men and The Road, while John Grisham is just below him at number 24. If you want to see who's in the full list, then head over to The Hollywood Reporter and pretend that you've read all the books before the movies came out, and get all pretentious about it.
