Forget Google Glass and virtual reality headsets, the smart hoody is the latest in wearable tech.

In the future, everything we wear will be equipped with computer gadgets, processor chips and all sorts of sensors that will be able to tell us everything about our lives, from our glasses to our underwear, and that process has already begun.

The newest addition to the family of wearable technology however is a pretty cool invention that works with your smartphone to perform a series of actions, from sending text messages to answering your calls.

It's some amazing technology but not quite at the height of style just yet in our humble opinion, as our wardrobe doesn't contain too many ill fitting plain black hoodies. The project is the work of two students, Rucha Patwardhan and Alina Balean, from New York University's Interactive Telecommunications Program, and is certainly innovative.

The main problem is that this couldn't really be washed, but given that it's not for mass production and is still in the conceptual stage, there are plenty of refinements to be made that could well make this piece of kit a reality soon enough.
