Well, it's official, we Irish love our Hail Marys.
The Hail Mary was voted the nation's favourite prayer at the National Ploughing Championships in Carlow this week.
The prayer beat such favourites as the Our Father and the Rosary.
Visitors chose their favourite prayer from a shortlist with the Hail Mary receiving 61% of votes. The runner-up was the O Angel of God (the Guardian Angel Prayer), which received 39%.
A spokesperson for the Irish Catholic Bishops said that up until yesterday, Our Father and the Guardian Angel Prayer were leading the way.
"But then out of nowhere, Mary came through. So there's definitely something about Mary".
Like there's possibly nothing more Irish that's ever been reported.
And of course the response on Twitter really was something to behold.
If you muck speeders had your bollox caught in a combine harvester, you be saying more than a few Hail Marys. 😂😂

A hymn is just a prayer with some sass on it

I’m more a ‘Glory be . . ‘ man myself - nice and short. Though I’ve a real soft spot for ‘Be Not Afraid’ sung well
