A huge solar explosion meant that the Northern Lights were visible over much of Europe last night, and there were some great shots shared from around the country.

While spotting the Northern Lights in Donegal and other northern areas of the island is not all that infrequent, the rest of the country was treated to that fantastic light show (fittingly enough on Paddy's Day), with places like Wicklow and Waterford weighing in with some shots of one of nature's most breathtaking phenomena.

While the activity was at its highest last night, there is a slim chance that they may be visible again tonight, so keep an eye on the Aurora Service website for forecasts, and the Aurora Ireland Twitter account for news and snaps from around the country.
