Met Éireann are still issuing a status orange alert, and with more snow expected today and this evening.

Some parts of the country have already been hit by snowfall overnight and this morning, and there may be more on the way if their weather reports prove to be accurate. The meteorologists are predicting that today will be "bitterly cold with wintry showers of hail, sleet and snow in most areas", with "west Munster, Connacht and Ulster" seeing the worst of the weather.

They even warned that some of the showers will be thundery, and will lead to accumulations of snow on high ground, with temperatures hovering around the lower end of the scale between 1°C and 4°C. This morning, plenty of people took to social media to show that they had already been hit by some of the snow that they had been warned about, and were posting some picturesque scenes from around the country.

As for tonight, the prediction is for further winter showers and accumulations of snow, with temperatures dropping to -2°C, in particular in the west and Ulster, while the east will escape the worst of it.
