Culinary innovation knows no bounds, even when it comes to health and safety.

If you're anything like us, then you've probably already tried to put a burger inside a donut, and realised that it's good, but not for everyday consumption, only special occasions like when Taylor Swift calls around for a chinwag.

However, one pub chain in the UK has gone against that and decided to add the Double Donut burger to their menu and offer it to customers who are willing to consume 1,996 calories in one go, excluding the obligatory side of chips and a soft drink. That's a fair whack of your daily allowance of calories and definitely more sugar than anyone has ever recommended that you ingest in one sitting.

The burger contains two meat patties, cheese, bacon, barbecue sauce and, of course, is all packed in between two donuts. They've also ditched all that salad stuff that other burgers go in for like lettuce and tomatoes, which can't have helped the nutritional profile any.

Nutritionist and senior lecturer in Applied Physiology at Birmingham City University, Mel Wakeman, has broken down the content of this burger on her blog, and it doesn't make for pleasant reading: 25g fat (178% over the Guideline Daily Amount), 53g saturated fat (267% of the GDA), 8.20g of salt (137% of the GDA) and a whopping 53g sugar – over double the daily dose. As a result, she claims that the burger is "irresponsible", and a step too far from The Hungry Horse pub chain.

As far as we're concerned, we at least want to try one before we condemn it. We'll split one between two just to be safe.
