Well, at least some of them would anyway.

We've often thought that when the time comes for us to retire and we've made our millions (we figure it will be from inventing a new piece of cutlery that no one has realised that they needed up until this point), we'd throw caution to the wind and do all of the stuff that we had put off in our younger years because we were too busy working. Y'know, skydiving, going on a drinking holiday with 'the lads', getting a ridiculous and impractical sports car... the essentials.

Well, it seems that we're not alone, as a study commissioned by Sky 1HD to celebrate 50 Ways to Kill Your Mammy, airing tonight at 9pm, has revealed that there is an adventurous side to Ireland’s over-60s, with one in three looking for thrills going in a hot air balloon, riding an elephant or learning to fly a plane.

Most of those surveyed hate being called ‘oldie’ and 92% think that they are pigeon-holed into enjoying certain activities because of their age and at least half of them say they would never even consider doing anything like trainspotting, bingo or stamp-collecting in their spare time.

The top ten activities in the adventure wishlist for over-60s are:

1. Book the trip of a lifetime (65%)

2. Drive/ buy a sports car (36%)

3. Go in a hot air balloon (34%)

4. Ride an elephant or a camel (32%)

5. Learn to fly a plane (29%)

6. Ride a motorbike (21%)

7. Run a 10k or similar (17%)

8. Drive a jet ski (15%)

9. Ride on a rollercoaster (14%)

10. Join a Zumba class (10%)/ Go scuba diving (10%)

Some respondents, feeling very young at heart, said that they would like to try pole dancing (2%), go on a holiday to Magaluf (5%) or get a tattoo (8%), while those looking for extreme fun opted for skydiving (9%), surfing (7%) and driving a jet ski (15%).

Commenting on the show Baz Ashmawy said: “As the survey shows, age really is just a number and my mammy is living proof! Sharing this journey of a lifetime with her around the world and seeing the buzz she got out of achieving all these amazing challenges was something I’ll never forget. I really hope the show inspires others like her to go out of their comfort zones and have an adventure of their own.”

Nancy Ashmawy said: "I'm so pleased to see other people my age might be up for some of the challenges I achieved. Sometimes I can't believe it all really happened. I had such a fantastic experience and being able to share it with Baz was very magical. I hope our show proves that people don't get old, they just get older."
