This year, ahead of Movember, which raises awareness of male specific cancers, October in Ireland will be dedicated to raising the ongoing need for Breast Cancer awareness. And who are the heroes stepping up to support? Centra. And for just three euro, you can too, by purchasing their rather stylish must-have shopping bag. The trendy 'bag for life' retails at 3 euro with all proceeds going to the Irish Cancer Society's Action Breast Cancer campaign.

This year, Centra set students nationwide a challenge to come up with a super stylish design based on the iconic pinkness of the Irish Cancer Society’s Action Breast Cancer campaign. A host of varying creative designs were submitted by students nationwide and judged by a panel led by leading Irish fashion designer and artist Helen Steele.

19 year old UCD student Cian Breathnach was announced as the overall winner and beat off stiff competition to have his design printed on 40,000 bags which will reach all parts of the country through Centra’s nationwide network. Cian’s design is a new take on the breast cancer ribbon using typographic study words associated with breast cancer. The clean yet powerful design will generate much needed funds for the Irish Cancer Society’s Action Breast Cancer programme.

Cian, from Knockbridge in Dundalk, has a strong passion for graphic design and was hugely motivated to enter the competition as his family has been personally affected by Breast Cancer with his aunt suffering from the illness. Drawing on his own experience and research Cian was able to create a unique design by making this language visible in the shape of the iconic breast cancer ribbon.

Make sure you get your hands on this must have accessory in aid of a very worthy cause in your local Centra Store. All proceeds will go to Irish Cancer Society’s Action Breast Cancer. For more information visit www.centra.ie.
