With the days getting shorter and the nights getting colder, many will agree that there are few positives to come with the arrival of autumn/winter. We at entertainment.ie, however, are glass-half-full kinda people. And with an eye for style, there's one key reason why winter totally rocks: clothes, clothes and more clothes.

"Man, I look good.'

In summer, lads are pretty much limited to t-shirts and shorts (okay, that's debatable in Ireland, I'll give you that) and it's hard to put together an outfit that's of any real reflection of your own personal style. At this time of year, though, we've got the wonderful luxury of layering. It's all about chunky cable knits, long-sleeved shirts to be layered under sweaters, and topped off with jackets - and don't catch your death by forgetting your scarf, subsequently upsetting your mammy - all serving a twofold purpose: to keep you warm and looking slick.

There's far more choice in the wintery months too, just take a look at the mens' autumn/winter range at Arnotts; we defy you to walk through these aisles and NOT find yourself tempted by a cosy cashmere jumper or a smart, tailored jacket; you'll want to eat it up.

With Arnotts, there's no need (or excuse) for wrapping up a la Joey Tribiani from Friends anymore; this is a lesson in how not to layer. Remember, men: you need not sacrifice style for function.

With a personally tailored suit, however, you can aim to achieve the same levels of suavity, as demonstrated here by one Mr Ryan Gosling•; your lady friends will love it.

Old-time charmer Don Draper's got the layered look down pat too.

So with November all but upon us, it's time to pack away the lightweight blazers (and ghastly, slogan-emblazoned t-shirts), and snuggle up while looking smart. Not sure where to start? Fear not, the style team at Arnotts have done the hard work for you; check out this video for a how-to guide on looking class this winter.

Disclaimer: Yeah, we can't guarantee you'll look as good as Ryan Gosling himself, but you'll be damn well close.
