Yes, it's basically like the episode of the Simpsons when Mr. Burns blocked the sun and made everyone use his electricity.

In a desperate bid to raise revenue, Spain is introducing a tax that will see anyone using solar-powered energy in their homes hit with a levy.

Spanish solar energy is currently at 60% over-production, meaning that authorities now have to figure out who's actually producing it.

How are they doing that, you ask? By getting everyone to hook up to the national grid. That's all fine, except the government will fine people a whopping €30 MILLION for not hooking up to the grid.

Not thousand. Million. Thirty million.

The move by the government is simple - the tax will be so high that it'll essentially force people to get their electricity from providers instead of producing their own.

As it stands, the tax doesn't apply to instant-use solar energy. Moreover, those who feed any surplus energy back into the grid won't receive any monetary benefit.

So, yeah. It's basically like Mr. Burns is right government policy in Spain.

That sucks.
