If you're looking for a sure fire way to curtail you binge drinking habit then researchers have finally found the answer - get married!

According to a Swedish study that assessed marital status and the likelihood drinking to excess, getting married may reduce your risk of developing an alcohol use disorder.

Married women were found to have a 71% lower risk of drinking too much than single women. Perhaps because they're not encouraged as much to go on wild nights out with their single friends any more? The same pattern applies to married men, who are 60% less likely to drink to excess than single ones.

The researchers suggest that this is down to the psychological and social parts of marriage. In particular health-monitoring spousal interactions. Which basically means your partner will notice and won't be afraid to call you out if you’re drinking loads.

So there you have it. Getting married for love or money is a thing of the past. Nowadays it's all about marrying to avoid liver disease.
