We’ve had Gorilla Glass on the iPhone for a while now, which has been great news for butter-fingers worldwide, but come on, that’s still leaving far too much responsibility in our hands.

We want to be able to throw out phone, minus a cover, in our pockets and not have to worry about keys, or loose change. Can’t they just make a phone that will stay immaculate no matter how we treat it?

There was Sapphire Glass, which basically fixed all of the problems we had with Gorilla Glass, but also threw all of the positives out the window. No longer would you have to worry about scratches, but it seemingly broke at the touch of a baby’s thumb, so it never really got used.

Thankfully, it seems like we’re inching towards that day when phone companies realise we need indestructible products, because Corning, the company who brought us Gorilla Glass, have been working on more advance forms of screen protection.

The company’s President, James Clappin, last week announced that, “Sapphire was great for scratch performance but didn't fare well when dropped,"

"So, we created a product that offers the same superior damage resistance and drop performance of Gorilla Glass 4 with scratch resistance that approaches sapphire."

So it seems the logical solution has now happened, and they’ve created Gorilla Glass 4, which combines the best aspects of both. It’s almost like they’re trying to make us feel bad when we inevitably break it.
