As the car-crash election that is Trump v Clinton wages on, things have gone from bizarre to downright insane.

The most recent f***-up by Donald Trump's campaign came from his own son, Donald Jr., and a horribly misjudged meme - yes, really - that compared Syrian refugees to Skittles. Again, yes, really.

The tweet has since gone viral and Trump's campaign hasn't even attempted to walk back the statement or even acknowledge just how dehumanising it is to compare people fleeing a warzone to sweets, but hey, this is Donald Trump so fat chance of that happening.

In any case, Skittles America were contacted about the whole thing by THR and came back with an appropriate and measured response.

"Skittles are candy. Refugees are people. We don't feel it's an appropriate analogy. We will respectfully refrain from further commentary as anything we say could be misinterpreted as marketing."

You really have to marvel at just how sociopathic someone has to be in order to think there's a suitable analogy between sweets and human lives.
