A new scam for iPhone users has tricked a couple of people into parting with their cash, but there is an easy way to fix it without losing out on any money.

The scam has hit iPhone owners who open up their Safari internet browsing app, only to find a message saying that iOS has crashed, and they need to call a number for customer support to help them fix the problem.

The scam started in the US, but has moved across to the UK, and the message reads "due to a third party application in your phone, iOS crashed. Contact support for an immediate fix", with a number to call, which has been reported as being 0800 279 6211 or 0800 652 4895 in the UK.

When people call the number, they're then told that their handset needs to be unlocked and they have to fork over £50 (€71) to get it working again.

However, Apple have stated that this is a scam, and that they wouldn't contact their customers in this way. While a few people have been caught, they also pointed out that on the official support pages, there's a guide to how to deal with this scam.

To get your browser working again, hit the home button and return to the main page. Turn on Airplane mode in settings, and then clear the cache of your Safari browser, making sure to get rid of the cookies too. After that, when you go back to open Safari, the warning should have gone, and which point you can go back to turn Airplane mode off.
