I still watch the show whenever it's on Comedy Central (only if they're before series 4 mind. You all know why), but you'd have to heavily sedate me before I'd watch a one of the movies. I got two thirds the way through the first one (a friend's fellah got it for some reason and was determined to watch it), and nowhere near the second one - despite it actually taking up residence in my house. I got it for one of the sisters for Christmas (she had wanted to watch it while we were on holidays, but I refused. Instead, I made her watch Date Night for the third time...) and, as it turned out, her husband had also got her a copy. So I've got this SATC2 DVD lurking about the abode which I've lost the receipt for. Raging.
Given my sister, a huge Sex and The City fan, couldn't watch SATC2 through to completion ("What was that? Where was the script? I've never felt so patronised" and so on), it's anyone's guess who's going to be arsed with the prequel.
Yep, there's a prequel, and it's reportedly going to star 'the world's most desirable woman'. Blake Lively is being tipped to step into Carrie Bradshaw's Manolo Blahniks to play the Sex And The City heroin in a film about her pre-New York days, (loosely) based on Candace Bushnell's The Carrie Diaries.
The movie would feature a new cast of single ladies to portray Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda and Samantha (but why? Kim, Kirsten, SJP and Cynthia were all so convincing in their 80s guises), and writer-director-producer-scourge Michael Patrick King reportedly has his eye on the Gossip Girl star to fill the lead role. An insider told the magazine, "The prequel is about breathing new life into the story (that's been ridden the life out of) and exploring Carrie's first few months in NYC and the beginning of her relationship with an older man."
So, an entirely different story then. With more outfits.
UPDATE: News just in... it's not happening. There is a God.
