It was the biggest f*** up in recent Oscars history and although at the time everyone on stage was either in shock or embarrassed, star of La La Land Ryan Gosling could not stop laughing when it turned out Moonlight had won Best Picture and not the hit musical.

While others have come forward and said what was going through their mind during that surprising turn of events, Gosling has kept pretty quiet on the whole thing.

According to People though, the actor was quizzed about it in Las Vegas at the Adobe Summit yesterday.

“I thought there was some kind of medical situation, and I had this worst-case scenario playing out in my head,” he explained. “And then I just heard Moonlight won and I was so relieved that I started laughing.”

The Canadian actor said that the entire scene was 'surreal' and that he noticed people's initial 'panicked reaction,' while “guys were coming on [the stage] with headsets.”

Gosling explained he harboured no hard feelings towards La La Land’s loss and was delighted for the makers of Moonlight: “Truthfully, I was also so thrilled that Moonlight won. I know the director [Barry Jenkins] … I’ve worked with them before. It’s such a groundbreaking film, made for a million dollars, and incredible achievement and I’m so happy for them that they were being recognized.”
