It will arrive via stork.

Kidding. No, while we wait for Kate Middleton to give birth to the future King or Queen of England, we thought we'd give you a rundown of some of the weirder facts and traditions surrounding royal babies.

1. Price William was the first potential King born in a hospital. All the previous births of the Kings and Queens of England happened on estates or in royal homes. Prince Charles was born at Buckingham Palace, and Elizabeth II was born in her grandparent's home in Mayfair.

2. There are assloads of artillery salutes scheduled to herald the royal baby's arrival. There will be a 41-gun salute in Green Park because royals get a 21-round salute and because Green Park is a royal park, they add on an extra 20. And at the Tower of London there'll be 62 rounds fired, the basic royal 21, the royal grounds 20 and an extra 21 for 'the city of London'. Awful noisy.

3. William and Kate will have not one but three different options of surname for their child: Mountbatten-Windsor, Wales or Cambridge. They also can choose not to give one as the baby will get a HRH Prince or Princess.

4. The news of the birth will come via an easel, which will be placed in the forecourt in front of Buckingham Palace following the tradition of announcing royal births and deaths by attaching notices to the railings of the palace.

5. Home secretaries used to have to be present to witness the births of future monarchs up until just before Prince Charles birth. This was, believe it or not, to make sure that the birth was legitimate and that another baby had not been 'snuck in'.

6. It's been 120 years since the reigning monarch was alive to welcome the birth of their great-grandchild and heir, the last one being Queen Victoria.

7. Even though there used to be many witnesses to the births of royals, Prince Charles was the first royal to attend the birth of his children. Prince Phillip was playing squash when Charles was born.

8. This royal baby is expected to bring $380 million into the British economy, the majority of which will be through souvenir sales. We can't wait for our Royal Baby mug.

9. Every child in Britain born on the same day as the royal baby will get a silver penny, issued by the Royal Mint to commemorate the birth.

10. Regardless of the gender, Kate and William's child will be third in line to the throne. Cue Prince Harry breathing the biggest sigh of relief ever.
