Ireland's Robbie Keane became the first person from our fair shores to win an award at the ESPYs last night.

The record goal-scorer for the international side won the award for the Best MLS Player award at the ceremony last night, thanks to his performances last season, which included an extra-time winner that sealed the victory for his side in the MLS Cup Final.

Keane beat out competition from Seattle Sounders' Obafemi Martins, New England Revolution's Lee Nguyen, and New York Red Bulls' Bradley Wright-Phillips to scoop the award.

Keane also won the MLS MVP last year with 19 goals and 14 assists, capping off an excellent season all round for the Irishman.
