There's been constant speculation (almost to the point of blackout) as to whether Ricky Gervais will host the Golden Globes for the third year running - people keep asking him, he keeps saying probably not - but now he's had one of his big ideas. He doesn't have to stand there onstage, he can let some other muppet do that... while he and one or two of his special mates provide the commentary.

Here is his proposal, word for word...

"What do you think of this. A live 3 hour podcast during the Golden Globes. Me and a few chums (like Louis CK, Chris Rock, Karl Pilkington, John Stewart, Larry David popping in and out) doing our own alternative commentary. People at home can have the telly on with the sound down listening to us online say things that no broadcaster could get away with. No one could do a f*cking thing. The biggest webcast ever? Who knows? Who cares? What's fun is the shit we might come out with. No money. No sponsor. No guide lines. F*ck me I can't wait.  Maybe I'll do a non-broadcast practice with The Emmys to see if it works. I'll let you know."

That would probably for the best, Ricky, 'cause I fear the plan - which would be brilliant by the by - might be flawed. You see, I had a similar idea while sitting in a pub. Top Gear was on mute and everyone was talking shite. There and then I wished there was an App or a radio frequency I could tune into so I could hear what Richard Hammond was saying. What a handy app for those couples who you see sitting there in silence in the local, staring into space. It's like you're at home watching telly, but you're out. Fabalass.

Thing is, though, there's the small matter of the time delay between the live TV broadcast and the internet feed. Something would happen on screen, and then the quip would come about a good few seconds after... would that matter though if it's just commentary and not direct lip synching? Probably not, 'cause it might only be a couple of seconds delay? I've taken all the fun out of this with too many questions, haven't I.
