If you thought footballers made too much as it stands, you’re not going to like this news one bit.

The Premier League will today announce the new cost of the rights to televise its games for the next three seasons, and it’s expected to cost just under €6 billion.

The current deal, which runs out at the end of next season, cost Sky and BT Sport €3.01 billion between them, and it looks like that’s only going to increase.

All we can hope is that the cost won’t be saddled solely on the shoulder of the viewer, but with every individual game costing close to €11 million, the money is going to have to come from somewhere.

With the average Premier League footballer's salary now slightly over €40,000 per week, it seems like we're going to have even more reason to complain when they miss open goals.

Thankfully for those who aren’t shelling out for Sky or BT, the BBC have already secured the rights to the highlights of the games, so your Saturday nights in won’t be without Match of the Day, although it did cost them €275 million.
