Yesterday, we reported the sad news regarding the passing of legendary onscreen 'Mammy' Doris Roberts. While she was best known for her role as the formidable Marie Barone on Everybody Loves Raymond, she first came to our attention starring alongside Pierce Brosnan in his breakthrough role on Remington Steele. She played the far more fluffy character of Mildred.

Posting to his official Instagram yesterday, the Irish actor said: "dear Doris, we had fun did we not...you were a joy to work with, you made me laugh and you made my work better for the laughter... Love life work and laughter...here's to higher ground ...RIP."

Clearly moved, he also posted this montage, captioned: "My dear Doris, I am so very saddened to hear the news of your passing, I loved you Doris, we had so many good laughs together, and you always knew where the laughs were, you never forgot the audience...my heartfelt love and condolences go out to your family... You will be missed by many, forever and the day, but your work shall live on. Love life and laughs ...God bless."
