Although there was hot competition from words like 'bakeoff', this year's word of the year is 'phtobomb'. Everyone is doing it, sure.

Collins Dictionary have announced that the word of the year for 2014 is 'photobomb', which was chosen from the nearly 50,000 new additions to the dictionary. As it's practiced by some of the world's leading celebrities, and even the Queen of England herself, it managed to sneak its way to the top of the list.

Other options included 'normcore' and 'twerk', two things that we're almost entirely convinced we will never see Lizzie across the water giving her approval to.

Collins stated that the reason it was the word of the year was down to its popularity: "This year saw an unprecedented level of high-profile photobombing, most notable were Jennifer Lawrence photobombing Taylor Swift at the Golden Globes in January, Benedict Cumberbatch photobombing U2 at the Oscars, and the Queen, who unwittingly photobombed members of the Australian hockey team at the Commonwealth Games".

The rest of the top five words, in descending order, were: Tinder, bakeoff, normcore and devo max. The English speaking world should be ashamed of itself, really, but if you want to see twerk move higher up the list for 2015, then you'll have to convince high profile celebrities to do it more often, Miley can't hold the fort on her own.
