Now that he’s a father to what might be the most beautiful baby in the world with Eva Mendes, Ryan Gosling is a candidate for the world’s most stylish dad.
That might be a bit premature, given that he’s new to the parenting game, but there’s no doubting that Gosling has a style that is simple without being boring, and edgy without being over the top.
While he depicts some strange characters on-screen, his real-life persona rarely sets a foot wrong sartorially, no matter what the season. This summer, we saw him step out in style in Cannes with the launch of his new movie, but when the temperatures drop, he gets even cooler. That’s no easy feat, so we sent editor Mike Sheridan down to Arnotts to put together an outfit that would take the best of Gosling’s style without a Hollywood budget.
With the Winter approaching, bundling up for the cold is always going to be paramount, and your coat is going to be the focal point of your outfit, mostly because you’re going to spend a lot of your time wearing it.
The peacoat is a piece that will serve you well and will smarten up a casual look with jeans and shoes with minimal effort, which is why it’s an essential for the colder months. Gagliardi are a brand that do everything well, from their shirts to their accessories (and everything in between) so there’s no need to look any further when trying to find a suitable Winter coat. This peacoat (€289) is classic and timeless, and will work for your next night out or your trip into work on Monday morning.
A good scarf will not only keep you warm, but it’s an opportunity to bring a pattern that’s on trend in to your outfit, as well as inject some colour. Winter can be a lot of drab tones, so brightening things up with an accessory like this Barbour tartan scarf (€40) is a simple way to make you stand out from the crowd. Being the Perfect Gentleman, you can also offer it for extra warmth to a damsel in distress on a cold night too, for extra kudos. Just make sure to get it back, it really pulls the outfit together nicely.
We hardly need to extol the virtues of denim at this point, but having started life as workwear, jeans are durable, they work well in the cold and they have never gone out of style. With good cause too; if you pick the right timeless and simple pair, with a nice slim fit that tapers at the end to compliment your shape and flash your footwear too, which is why these Diesel Thavor jeans (€155) are perfect for any season.
Speaking of footwear, a pair of leather boots is a solid choice for Winter, and through into Spring too, so you can always be guaranteed to get your money’s worth from investing wisely here. Hudson’s collection for this season has a great selection of boots, but our particular favourites are these ones that Mike sports here, with a brogue detail. That little touch differentiates them from other footwear, as attention to detail makes all the difference.
