Getting a tattoo is a normally major decision, something that you spend months thinking about, since once it's done, you're stuck with the results for life. Imagine explaining to your kids why you have the name Jessica scrawled on your arm, when their mother's name is Sarah.

But a few adventurous souls decided to take that risk when they volunteered to be tattooed without meeting the artist, or seeing the design that would be inked onto their skin. As part of the Whole Glory exhibition at the Milk Gallery in New York, they stuck there arm through a hole in the wall and hoped they wouldn't be left something that read "1D 4 LYF".

The stranger on the other side of the wall was tattoo and fine artist Scott Campbell, who has also displaying some of paintings at the exhibition. Campbell is married to actress Lake Bell, and counts Robert Downey Jr and Sting as clients. He decided on the project so as to have absolute freedom in his work, saying "as a tattoo artist, you never have absolute freedom in what you create. Your canvas always has an opinion on what is going on them, which is great because sometimes you get inspired by the person, and the piece becomes a reaction to them."

The results of the project are pretty impressive, and ranged from a rose, to a snake, to skulls. Nothing that will need to be lasered off, or permanently covered with a long sleeve shirt.
