The Australian Marine Wildlife Research And Rescue Organization (AMWRRO) is urging people to donate what they can, including mittens, to help them rescue koalas who were affected by the bushfires that recently hit Victoria and other areas in Southern Australia.

As you might imagine, a lot of the local wildlife has been hit by the effects of those fires, including koalas, who call the bush their home. One of the biggest problems is that many of them now have painful burn injuries on their paws as a result of the heat from the flames, and the AMWRRO is urging people to donate what they can to help.

They posted a series of pictures to Facebook showing Jeremy, one of the first victims of the fire, recovering from the injuries he received during the fire, which included second degree burns on his paws.

The AMWRRO updated everyone to let them know that despite his wounds, Jeremy "is doing very well and is in great spirits", but that they need donations to help to save many other animals who were also affected. They can either be monetary donations to help them keep up the good work, or other types of help that would be greatly appreciated, including mittens for the koalas' paws, and posted a pattern that could be followed to help make the process easier. Writing on their Facebook page, they said "Koalas urgently need your help. Please cut out our pattern and get your friends to get sewing too" and even gave a little update on Jeremy, who seemed to be getting on well with his mittens.

They have since been inundated with offers, and are not asking for more mitten donations, but with more injured animals expected to arrive soon, they're asking for people to give what they can and help the rest of the creatures that come through their doors.
