Last night's BAFTAs proved to be a mixed bag for the Irish, with some big victories for the likes of Barry Keoghan, Kerry Condon and Martin McDonagh, but also a few disappointments.

'An Cailin Ciuin' was unfortunately swept aside by 'All Quiet on the Western Front' in both of its nominated categories, while Colin Farrell and Paul Mescal lost out to Austin Butler for the 'Leading Actor' gong.

Nevertheless, Mescal continued his charm offensive on the world - and particularly the Irish public - with his mere attendance at the ceremony in London.

Not only was he spotted hurrying back to a fan on the red carpet to take a selfie with them, but he also conducted an interview as Gaeilge with TG4 .

Considering how most Irish people lose our ability to string a sentence in our native tongue together by the time we've walked out the door of the school, it's no mean feat.

He's already revived an interest in O'Neill's GAA shorts - will fans be flocking to Irish-language grinds after this clip? In any case, he's certainly doing his campaign for 'national treasure in the making' no harm...

One fan on Twitter claimed: "He makes Irish sound sexy! He’s that talented", while another said "Is there nothing he can’t do, I’d say he’d give out communion as well #bodyofchrist!!"
