"This is for me?" Wilde asked.
Olivia Wilde was reportedly served custody papers from Jason Sudeikis while appearing on stage at CinemaCon this week to promote her new film. Wilde and Sudeikis parted ways in 2020 after a nine-year relationship, but co-parent their two children.
The actor-turned-director was discussing her next directorial effort 'Don't Worry Darling' during the Warner Bros session when the moment unfolded. The film, starring her current boyfriend Harry Styles and 'Midsommar' star Florence Pugh, is billed as a psychological thriller set in 1950s America.
According to Deadline, Wilde's address to the audience was briefly interrupted by an unidentified person who approached the stage from the front row. Sliding an envelope across the stage towards her, she asked: "This is for me?"
Retrieving the envelope and opening it, the director continued with her presentation, showing the 'Don't Worry Darling' trailer to the Caesars Palace auditorium. Once shown, the trailer was met with "great applause".
According to the publication, Olivia Wilde was served custody documents relating to her and Jason Sudeikis' two children. Since their split in 2020, they co-parent their eight-year-old son Otis and five-year-old daughter Daisy.
A source for Sudeikis told Variety following this public moment on stage: "Papers were drawn up to establish jurisdiction relating to the children of Ms Wilde and Mr Sudeikis.
"Mr Sudeikis had no prior knowledge of the time or place that the envelope would have been delivered as this would solely be up to the process service company involved, and he would never condone her being served in such an inappropriate manner."
In response to the incident, CinemaCon said in a statement that it would "reevaluate" its security protocols in order to "protect the integrity of our studio partners and the talent".
Apart from this bizarre turn of events, CinemaCon in Las Vegas has been unleashing a plethora of new and upcoming releases to lucky attendees. Those in attendance were gifted with a first look at Margot Robbie in 'Barbie' and a sneak peek at the new 'Wonka' feature starring Timothée Chalamet in the title role.
