Mariah Carey has confirmed the worst-kept secret in showbiz, she's pregnant with her first child. Fiiiinally, after months of speculation, the singer and her actor/ comedian/ all round wreck the head husband, Nick Cannon, revealed the news on American television and the baby is due in the spring but, Mariah also revealed the sad news that she had suffered a miscarriage after she tried to get pregnant initially. In an exclusive interview with Access Hollywood correspondent Billy Bush on The Today Show she said: "Yes, we are pregnant. This is true. It's been a long journey, but it's been tough because I've been trying to hold on to a shred of privacy and that was not easy. It's still early [in the pregnancy]. We're expecting in the spring, let's say that…"
Carey, whose new album Merry Christmas II You is due to be released next week (so perfect timing the for the announcement then), went on to tell how she initially got pregnant soon after her marriage to Cannon, in April 2008, but suffered a miscarriage in the first month. She said: "It kind of shook us both and took us into a place that was really dark and difficult. When that happened… I wasn't able to even talk to anybody about it. That was not easy…" Cannon added that the experience had made them stronger; "It definitely brought us closer together. It strengthened our relationship so much… She handled it so well." He continued; "It's absolutely emotional, but for so many reasons."
Here's hoping it goes well from here on in.
