Controversial Manchester United owner and billionaire Malcolm Glazer passed away last night at age 85.

Glazer, who also owned the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFL, leaves behind his wife, Linda, six children and 14 grandchildren. Two of his children, Avram and Joel, have been involved in the running of Manchester United on a day to day basis up until recently, and his passing has caught many by surprise, despite his illness in 2006.

When he took over the Manchester club, fans revolted at his plans to saddle the club with debt in order to buy it, yet they continued to have success on and off the field, becoming one of the biggest clubs in the world, winning a Champions League title and securing several league titles along the way.

His passing was made public via a statement on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers website last night, and it could have many repercussions for his sporting interests both in the Premier League and the NFL. With a huge rebuilding project underway this summer at Old Trafford, there are, as yet, no details as to whether the team's budget will be affected in any way.
