We've all been bursting for the jacks on a plane, but we just have to wait in the queue not so patiently. This man had other ideas.

James Gray has been banned from flying with the airline KLM for five years, and earned himself a €600 fine, because he tried to open a plane's exit door mid-flight thinking it was the entrance to the toilet.

Gray, who was flying from London to Amsterdam, was detained immediately after the flight landed, and was kept overnight before being issued his fine. He didn't even realise he'd been handed the ban until he attempted to use his return flight home, with the airline's staff refusing to let him on board.

Having only brought €750 for the trip with him, he was forced to borrow money from a friend to cover the cost of a flight home with another airline.

He claims to have only touched the handle, and said the incident was an accident. A very, very stupid accident, but sure we've all made those, just not at 30,000 for the most of us.
