There's a lot of people out there wondering what the big deal is regarding women posting photos of themselves make-up free on social media. I'll tell you what the big deal is; I've never left the house without make up - on account of having yellow lashes which can make the peepers look like pee-holes in the snow and a pretty hefty case of Rosacea - and I posted a photo of myself on Face Book with no make up last Saturday.

Personally (probably because I'm extremely vain and facile) I found it a bit difficult, wondering if the teeth could look any yellower, and so on. But then you look at the bigger picture; it's a very simple and effective way of raising money and awareness for cancer research, something which will - at some part of our lives - effect every family in the country. My mum died of cancer in her 50s, as have several relatives, and my sister's only recently recovered from breast cancer. That was the motivation in the end.

When posting the photo, I nominated the other half to partake, mainly because I know how good he looks with a bit of lippy on his eyelids (no idea what the story is with the green sticker, but sure why not), that and men in make up is just far more fun to look at.

Daithi O Se also went down the route of using lipstick as a multipurpose tool, and - might we add - pulls off a little pigtail with aplomb.

Who knew Ray D'Arcy could look so frightening.

That's Mairead's hair, in case you're wondering where it sprouted from.

Or who knew Will Hanafin had such a pretty mouth?

Or looked rather like the love child of Boy George and Frances De La Tour without the wig.

Of course, they've been at it for a while over in the UK, raising £1,000,000 in two days for Cancer Reserch. Rylan just had to go pro - that or he's a dab hand at the falsies himself.

The person who's put in the most effort so far, in my books, is my mate Alan. It's the stubble coupled with the gold headband that pulls it altogether. That and he OWNS it. In fact, he says he may "keep the blonde" because he's "having so much fun."

Your efforts, so far, have raised in the region of €650,000 for the Irish Cancer Society. If you haven't got involved yet, dive into the make up bag and Text PINK to 50300.
