The next time you're caught watching a cat video in work, just say that you've got a scientifically valid reason for doing so.

Cat videos are not just entertaining, they're also good for you an can help you to perform better when faced with a difficult task, according to research published in the journal Computers in Human Behaviour. The study looked at 7,000 people, asking them how they felt after watching a cat video, and Indiana University assistant professor Jessica Gall Myrick crunched the resulting numbers.

Her research showed that the videos boosted the viewer's energy levels and made them feel better about negative feelings: "Even if they are watching cat videos on YouTube to procrastinate or while they should be working, the emotional pay-off may actually help people take on tough tasks afterward", Myrick added.

So, in case you're about to head into a big important meeting where you need to seal a big business deal, why not watch this cat video to prepare yourself? Science says it works, don't argue with science.
