To clarify - for her very first birthday, North got brought around a museum, got thrown a birthday party she couldn't enjoy, and she had earrings stapled into her little ears. Just as well it's a birthday she won't remember, otherwise she may been put off them for life.

Apparently Kim wanted to do something special to commemorate their little girl North's milestone on June 15th, so she decided to get her ears pierced beforehand.

A source told that the 33-year-old invited an experienced piercer to her mother Kris Jenner's house in Calabasas, California to perform the procedure on North's ears in private just a week-and-a-half before the special occasion.

Kim immediately purchased a small diamond pair of studs for the tot, who was first spotted wearing them on her birthday in New York City (around a museum), and also wore them at her star-studded music festival-themed 'Kidchella' bash last weekend (which she was too young to enjoy)

The reality TV star previously admitted she loves "dressing up" her daughter and even borrows designer items from Kanye's wardrobe to create costumes for her.

Earlier this year, she said: "I take pictures of her all the time and dress her up. I put Kanye's big chains around her, and I put a little Louis bag and some Jordans, and I was like, 'What up, Daddy?'"

Meanwhile, a source told PEOPLE magazine that the couple spent thousands of dollars on North's Coachella-inspired party, which featured a carnival-size Ferris wheel, bouncy castle, stage, tepees and food trucks: "Kim and Kanye made sure it was very special. It was amazing, and all the kids had the best time." Apart from their own.

Obviously piercing an infant's ears is a personal choice (not theirs, I hasten to add). Personally it's not a choice I'd consider. There's enough things a baby needs wiping on a daily basis without adding 'potentially septic earlobes' to the mix. My mum waited until I was 12 to get my ears pierced, mainly so I could wipe them with surgical spirits and twist them several times a day myself.

Still, it means North now has another appendage she can potentially endorse products from.
