Sometimes, the best TV comedies don't achieve 'iconic' status for the main characters alone - it's often the background details and smaller roles that really enhance a show.

That was certainly the case for 'The Office' (UK), where characters like Keith perfectly summed up the oddball characters you encounter in the most mundane of workplaces.

'Big Keith' was known for his love of scotch eggs and his desire to be a DJ and often had some of the funniest and most deadpans lines in the show.

Tributes have poured in for the actor and comedian who played Keith in the series, Ewen McIntosh, who has sadly died at the age of 50.

The show's co-writer Stephen Merchant told BBC radio that McIntosh was so funny that they "started writing more and more scenes with him in, and eventually he became a beloved character."

As well as 'The Office', McIntosh also appeared in 'After Life', 'Miranda', 'Little Britain' and more, as well as a role in Yorgos Lanthimos's film 'The Lobster'.

His cause of death was not revealed, but he is believed to have suffered from ill health in recent years and he died at Willow Green Care Home on February 19th.
