Kate Hudson and Matt Bellamy sought split advice from Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow. Not sure that was necessary given they weren't married for a decade - but at least they're being thorough.

The showbiz power couple confirmed yesterday that they've quashed their engagement after being separated for "some time", and they reportedly held meetings with the Coldplay frontman and the Iron Man 3 actress - who "consciously uncoupled" earlier this year - to get advice about parting in the public eye.

A source told The Sun: "Matt and Kate modelled their separation on Chris and Gwyneth. They had several individual meetings with both, seeking advice on how to handle the split plus keep things as normal as possible for their kids. They will remain close friends."

Kate's representative said in a statement yesterday: "Kate and Matt have been separated for some time now. Despite this, they remain very close friends and committed co-parents." Matt, meanwhile, has been seen getting on down at Chiltern Firehouse.

Now that the pair's split is confirmed, the 35-year-old beauty has already been romantically linked to 29-year-old Derek Hough after they were spotted *gasps* masticating together at a Los Angeles restaurant last weekend.

Kate - who also has son Ryder, 10, from her previous marriage to Chris Robinson - and Derek have known each other for three years and last year she revealed he had been teaching her some moves: "... lately I've been ballroom dancing with Derek Hough. It's been a real blast."

We chose to leave out the bit of the quote about her heart being "really in contemporary jazz" because it raises too many visuals to take it seriously *jazz hands*
