In the annals of history yet to be written, there will come a passage when it will be noted that the star of 'Ace Ventura: Pet Detective' publicly clashed with the grand-daughter of Italian despot, Benito Mussolini.

Now, here's the context. Jim Carrey, as you may or may not know, has taken to tweeting out some of his paintings of late. They're all quite political in nature, and his most recent work was decidedly so.

Depicting Benito Mussolini hung upside down beside his mistress, Claretta Petacci, the image was captioned, "If you’re wondering what fascism leads to, just ask Benito Mussolini and his mistress Claretta."

If you don't know your World War II history, Mussolini and Petacci were eventually shot dead by partisans and then hung upside down in Milan where people came to spit on them. Anyway, Carrey's commentary on the creeping rise of fascism in America caught someone's attention.

Benito Mussolini's granddaughter, Alessandra.

Calling Carrey "a bastard", Alessandra Mussolini MEP then continued to tweet images of American atrocities - such as Hiroshima, the Trail of Tears - but probably not realising that Carrey is in fact Canadian by birth. Just to make it even more pointed, Carrey only received dual citizenship in 2004.

So, yeah, that's where we're at in the world. The guy from 'Dumb And Dumber' is in an internet argument with Mussolini's granddaughter. Honestly, at this stage, maybe we're just better off without the internet in the first place.

The free porn just isn't worth it anymore.
