She may be the star of one of the biggest Netflix shows of the year, but it seems that Jenna Ortega still has much to learn about diplomacy.
The 20-year-old actress, who plays Wednesday Addams in 'Wednesday', came under fire recently for her comments regarding the series' script.
In a recent podcast interview, she said: "There were times on that set where I almost became unprofessional in a sense, where I just started changing lines. The script supervisor thought that I was like, going with something, and then I would have to sit down with the writers and they would be like, ‘Wait, what happened to this scene?’ And I would have to go through and explain why I couldn’t do certain things."
She added: "I don’t think I’ve ever had to put my foot down on a set in the way that I had to on Wednesday. Everything that she does, everything that I had to play, did not make sense for her character at all. Her being in a love triangle made no sense. There was a line about a dress that she has to wear for a school dance and she said, ‘Oh my God, I love it. Ugh, I can’t believe I said that, I literally hate myself.’ And I had to go, ‘No.'"
Clearly, her comments did not go down well with writers - and now, with the WGA strike currently ongoing in the US, slowing production of many shows and forcing the suspension of others in development, some writers have taken the opportunity to take some tongue-in-cheek pot shots at Ortega while on the picket line.
One was seen holding a sign that Without writers, Jenna Ortega will have nothing to punch up!", while Karen Joseph Adcock, a writer on 'The Bear', joked on Twitter: "Rewriting is writing! See you at the line, Jenna."
'Bojack Horseman' writer Nick Adams tweeted: "Jenna Ortega better be back from NY for her afternoon shift on the picket line", while another writer on the picket line held a sign that simply said: "Where is Jenna Ortega?"
Ortega has not publicly commented on either the strike or the teasing signs and tweets.
