The Irish actor was heavily tipped to be the next James Bond. However, it would seem that Aidan will be donning period costume again rather than spy gear (although female fans will probably hope he’ll just go shirtless, as per an infamous scything scene in season one).

The BBC confirmed the news today that popular period drama Poldark will return for a third season.

Aidan will be reprising the title role of Ross Poldark.

Many of the original cast will also be returning, including Eleanor Tomlinson, who plays his wife Demelza, and there will also be new faces.

The second season airs early this autumn. According to executive producer Elizabeth Kilgarriff, it ‘promises to take the audience on another fantastic rollercoaster ride.’

The third season is set in 1794, and sees Ross ‘traverse a new family, new loves and new battles as the French Revolution casts a shadow over life in Cornwall.’

It is rumoured that James Norton, star of War and Peace, is now the favourite to play 007.
