As we speak we're dusting off the aul CV to apply to Irish Water, it sounds like a great place to work.

Irish Water already has a pretty bad reputation with most people, given previous reports of bonuses that the staff would receive, and this latest news about how workers will qualify for extra pay is unlikely to help that.

According to details obtained by RTÉ's This Week, even those staff that don't meet their targets will receive a pay bonus of up to 9%. If it's deemed that their performance in work "needs improvement", the employees will still be given a boost in their wages across the board, with a bonus of up to 19% on offer for people who are actually good at their job.

As the figures above highlight, even simply meeting the expectations set out will earn you a pay bonus of 14%. The lower pay grades in the company will also be earning "up to the mid-€40,000 bracket" according to RTÉ, which has caused plenty of concern in addition to the bonuses.

Fianna Fáil leader Micheal Martin stated that he was appalled at the findings, but as RTÉ have pointed out, given that Irish Water is a new company, none of these bonuses have actually been paid out yet. However, this structure has been in place since last year in Bord Gais (rebranded recently as Ervia), of which Irish Water is a subsidiary, and the continuing bad press has led many to speculate that the government may already be looking to make changes at the top ranks in the company.
