A certain Irish TV regular is currently cacking themselves somewhere in the Dublin area.
News surfaced yesterday that a "major showbusiness celebrity is under investigation" for an alleged rape which took place 30 years ago - which I'm assuming is outside the statute of limitations, but given an Irish celebrity is involved, everyone's interested.
The Independent reported that "Gardai confirmed last night that they had received a complaint that an alleged sexual assault took place on a female three decades ago, and that an investigation had now been launched. Officers have since written to the woman who made the complaint and asked her for a DNA report on her child."
The alleged rape resulted in a daughter: "A friend of the woman said she had not come forward before now to report the alleged rape because she did not want her child to know what had happened. She said the woman remembered walking behind the man. He turned around and pushed her over, she alleged. She also said the woman claimed the man then pulled down her jeans and 'next thing he was on top' of her. She said the woman's sister had also spoken to the gardai to corroborate her story."
Today it transpires that the alleged victim was a teenager at the time.
For those who might be thinking the following "Ah, sure this is all just happening because of the Jimmy Savile scenario", the Independent stipulates that "five days after she filed the report with the gardai, the Jimmy Savile scandal erupted."
According to reports, the alleged perpetrator has yet to be questioned by Gardai. They're waiting for further lines of inquiry to be investigated before he's approached.
To clarify, the person in question is currently a TV personality.
