It's come to light that British Police, who last week said they had zero record of complaints against Jimmy Savile, actually had complaints ranging back as far as the 1980s, and failed at seven opportunities to investigate and arrest the former BBC television presenter. According to The Sun, there was an initial complaint in the 1980s that Savile indecently assaulted a girl in his caravan at BBC TV Centre. Then there was another investigation in 2003 from a woman alleging she was groped in the '70s, followed by a string of reports and investigations that failed to turn to prosecutions in 2007, describing indecent assault by Savile of girls under 16 again in the '70s. There was a final complaint by a man in 2008 that he was also abused in the 1970s. All the cases were apparently dropped due to lack of evidence, with victims unwilling to pursue the cases according to Scotland Yard.
The substantial amount of reports and disparate evidence against Savile while he was still alive is what baffles most, including the dropping of probes into four attacks in 2009. Nine current BBC employees are currently being investigated over sex allegations in the wake of the Savile scandal, and it's unclear if they're related. This seems to be the horrible story that unfortunately has enough legs that keep on running.
