Murray Aston was the lucky Irish winner of Heineken's Dropped challenge. The lucky fella was dropped off in an unknown location and tasked with making his way back home. Turns out he was not alone. Dropped off on a beach in the Philipines, Murray soon found he was not alone. Handcuffed to fellow Heineken Dropped contestant Jacob from Warsaw the pair would have to stick it out together. We caught up with Murray to chat about the challenge.

What made you enter Dropped?

I suppose out of pure curiousity to be honest. I hadn’t actually heard of the Heineken competition at the time but as soon as I started  with the on-street stuff it quickly became apparent to me how big it actually was.

How strange is it being blindfolded through an airport?

Wow… Strange! It was straight up weird. I kind of thought mainly about the legalities of doing something like this but obviously then thought, well how do blind people fair on their travels. It was very surreal but thoroughly enjoyable. I would definitely do it again!

What was the weirdest part of being handcuffed to a complete stranger?

I reckon from the first moment of being handcuffed I thought would we get on well together. I have a few mates and to be honest I don't think I could be handcuffed to them let alone a complete stranger for a week. Although within the first hour we were laughing and joking about the same sort of issues and we both realised that this was going to be a cool experience.

Did it feel like you were on an episode of Bear Grylls - Born Survivor?

Yes. We laughed about me being Murray Mears and Jakub being Jakub Grylls and even at times in the jungle pretended to be the two guys while putting on rather weak David Attenborough voices. It was hilarious, although when Jakub said that he would try and climb the trees with me attached I have to bring him back to reality!

If you had to summarise your experience in five words, what would they be?

Five words? Here’s one, AMAZING!
