Get ready for a whole lot of confused looks and questioning of your change as we're set to get a fresh new €20 note which was unveiled to the public by officials in the ECB today before coming into circulation later this year.

Joining its €5 and €10 note brethren, the 'Gothic' €20 note, which looks pretty similar to the current one, brings in new anti-counterfeiting measures which the European Central Bank hopes will make it difficult to forge.

According to the ECB, the €20 note that we currently have is one of the most forged, and along with the €50 note makes up for 86% of counterfeit notes currently in circulation.

The new note will feature the 'portrait window' security feature that was first introduced in the new €5 note in 2013 and seen again in last year's new €10 note, which shows the mythical figure that shares her name with the official EU information website and after which the continent was named when the note is held up to the light. The note may creep into pockets as it's tested in the coming months but won't officially come into circulation until November 25th.
